Display Coffee Table

A coffee table is an extension of who and what we are. Nothing is as personal a decision as what coffee table you choose for any given room of your home or office. Of course, this personal decision can never truly be right or wrong, but varying degrees of "coolness" definitely deserve a right or wrong feeling. I have seen no display coffee table that I did not like. Before you balk and go to another page, do you know what a display coffee table really is? Let me explain.

When we see a coffee table we like, we are woed and we are awed. Nothing is quite as beautiful or exotic as a coffee table. Well, I have seen many coffee tables I would just love to have anywhere in my home. One of my favorite is the dragon coffee tables. Okay, I have a weakness for dragons so maybe that is one reason, but if you have ever seen a dragon coffee table, you know why I have a respect for them. I like the mission style coffee tables. This simplistic design has always enthralled my senses.

Finally, there is one type of coffee table that has never disappointed me: the display coffee table. These are usually so much their owner's personality that you could tell everything you need to know by seeing a single display coffee table. The coffee table can have any type of stands. I have seen them made of solid wood or solid metal. They can literally be made of anything. I do like the legs to have some sort of moderate design. A loud design may take from what is in the display coffee table. The top of the table is usually a sheet of glass.

This sheet of glass can be thick and encompass the whole table top, or they glass table top can be a smaller piece of a large design. However you look at it, display coffee tables have some glass somewhere on them or they would not be called "display". Okay, you may be thinking, what is the big deal? You have seen glass top coffee tables and they weren't that special. Well, these display coffee table are special because underneath the glass is a storage space. That storage space holds something. Let me explain.

The first display coffee table I saw was at an old, old restaurant. (Did I mention it was old?) I sat down to these little tables and I looked down. There was no table cloth but the most exquisite table was beneath my eyes. Underneath the glass was a collage of various things such as an old pistol, an old yo-yo and other antiquities from years gone by. Now, I was in the year 1923. As I commented on the table, I had the waitress smile and tell me that there was a new table made for every year the restaurant was in business. Yes, that is a lot of tables! The woman also told me that not all of them were on display, but there was a museum across the road that had all of the other tables.

This restaurant had a time box from each year of that business. That would not have been possible without a display coffee table. Ever since then I have loved and admired those beauties. However, I have never owned one. I would not be able to match the impressiveness of that first awe-inspiring experience.
